CLIJA
Since the beginning of the school year 2008/2009, the ECG receives newly-arrived pupils between the ages of 16 and 18 years. Those pupils attend a ‘classe d’insertion pour jeunes adultes’ (CLIJA). The curriculum consists mainly of an intensive French course at beginner level. The ultimate aim is to integrate those pupils into a regular secondary level class or provide access to an apprenticeship so that the young adults attending the classes become financially and socially independent.
The group of pupils is very heterogenous which requires an approach to teaching favoring differentiation in each subject part of the curriculum.
In French, the aim is for the pupils to achieve a B1 level of proficiency, which some pupils manage to attain while others remain on a lower level. The humanities and natural sciences are integrated in the French curriculum in order to enhance the linguistic skills of the pupils in these domains.
Luxembourgish, a language of integration, is taught as a foreign language. Emphasis is put on developing speaking and listening skills. With the help of speaking activities focusing on easily comprehensible and slow-paced interactions the pupils will be able to acquire familiar language and common expressions to talk about themselves, their families, and topics that are pertinent in everyday life. The pupil will have acquired a basic set of vocabulary to deal with situations likely to arise regularly and to talk about routine tasks.
In English, emphasis is put on speaking and writing skills. The curriculum is adapted to the requirements and skills of each student. Lessons focus on the development of communication, grammar, and language skills.
As the pupils’ skills in mathematics are likely to be very heterogenous, the teacher will have to differentiate to a great extent in order to cater to the pupils’ needs. The lessons are based on the curriculum of 7e, 6e, and 5e of the secondary general stream.
Arts education can be considered as an introduction to art and is deemed an important means of expression for the pupils.
Physical education is geared to the enhancement of the pupils’ general well-being, their physical and motor skills as well as their social skills. Furthermore, games and competition help foster their ability to function as a member of a team.
In computer science the main focus lies on word processing and spreadsheets.
In general, the curriculum of the CLIJA classes is designed in a way to promote integration and help the pupils to adjust to a new environment by offering them the necessary tools and skills to pursue a successful academic career.
NB: Before entering a CLIJA, the pupil has to apply through SECAM (Service de la scolarisation des élèves étrangers). They will provide the necessary information regarding the Luxembourgish school system in general, and the offer available for pupils speaking a foreign language more specifically. In a next step, the pupils’ competencies and skills are assessed in order to identify the most suitable solution. Visite de la ville pour les classes de Clija 1 et 2
16.10.2020Les élèves des classes de Clija ont visité des monuments et endroits touristiques de la capitale accompagnés par leurs régentes et Mesdames Hubert et Junuzovic du Sepas.
Ils avaient pour tâche de s’orienter seuls dans la ville munis d’un plan et d’un itinéraire.
La visite a commencé par la place Guillaume II, puis s’est poursuivie par la visite de la cathédrale, le monument du souvenir de la « Gëlle Fra », le ministère d’Etat, le palais Grand-Ducal, la Chambre des Députés, le Conseil d’Etat, le chemin de la Corniche et la Cité judicaire. Le dernier monument visité a été celui du monument national de la solidarité.
La visite aurait dû se poursuivre encore, mais les nombreuses questions posées devant chaque lieu ont retardé la suite des visites. Mais ce n’est que partie remise !

Sortie culturelle scolaire des classes Clija 1 et Clija 2
17.10.2018Dans le cadre d'une sortie périscolaire destinée aux classes de Clija 1 et de Clija 2, les élèves, accompagnés de leurs professeurs Madame Dos Santos et Madame Gillen ainsi que de Madame Hubert, se sont tout d'abord rendus à l'Office de tourisme afin de se munir d'un plan de la ville. Ils avaient ensuite pour mission de se diriger, sans aide des accompagnateurs, vers des sites touristiques ou culturels prédéfinis.
